Conservation Projects
At AEP, conservation is all about protecting and preserving our natural environments, species, and resources, with an emphasis on sustainable land use.

Perched on the dramatic cliffs of Sydney’s northern harbour entrance, North Head Sanctuary in Manly is a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and ecological significance. Once a military base and quarantine site, the sanctuary now offers over 10 kilometres of walking and cycling tracks through coastal heathland, home to endangered species and rich Aboriginal heritage. Visitors can explore historic fortifications, the poignant Third Quarantine Cemetery, and panoramic lookouts with sweeping views of the harbour and ocean. Managed by the Harbour Trust, it’s a place where conservation, history, and recreation come together— - ust a stone’s throw from the bustle of Manly Beach.

Guided by collaboration and ecological expertise, this program reflects our commitment to long-term conservation success and this key project in Wyee involved various parcels of land between Hue Hue Road and Bushell’s Ridge Road on the NSW Central Coast.

The Australasian Bittern, one of Australia’s most secretive and endangered wetland birds, is being protected through a combination of scientific monitoring and collaborative conservation efforts. Critical habitats are being surveyed and managed in regions like the Hunter Wetlands to support breeding success and long-term survival. By bringing together ecologists, land managers, and local communities, important strides are being made to secure the future of this elusive species.

“This pilot study underscores the power of science and community collaboration in safeguarding our wetlands.”
AEP, commissioned by Hunter Local Land Services and funded through the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program, implemented the Cat Tracker Pilot Program adjacent to the Hunter Estuary wetlands.
