Biodiversity is assessed to identify ecological values, inform impact mitigation, and support responsible decision-making across natural and developed landscapes.

Biodiversity Offsets Scheme

Under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016, a structured framework has been established to assess the effects of development, land clearing, and conservation efforts via the implementation of an Avoid, Minimise and Offset hierarchy. In order to ensure that environmental impacts on biodiversity are thoroughly evaluated under the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme, AEP staff are trained in the Biodiversity Assessment Methodology (BAM) and apply it at each stage of our projects.

These assessments are conducted to determine ecological impacts arising from proposed activities. Biodiversity values are identified, quantified and appropriate measures are recommended to mitigate potential impacts resulting from proposed activities.

From determining the correct planning approval pathways to the careful design of survey and the production of Biodiversity Development Assessment Reports (BDAR), Biodiversity Certification Assessment Reports (BCAR) and Biodiversity Stewardship Site Assessment Reports (BSSAR); AEP staff ensure submissions are prepared to the highest standards and in accordance with the BAM guidelines.

BAM Assessors

AEP has several BAM Accredited Assessors who are engaged to prepare biodiversity assessments in compliance with NSW regulatory requirements. Our assessors have undergone training and gained accreditation under the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme and through their assessments, biodiversity values are thoroughly documented, impacts and associated offsets are quantified and recommendations are provided to support and guide our clients in the development of project specific Avoid, Minimise and Offset strategies.

Biodiversity Offsets

AEP also assist private landholders with the establishment of Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements (BSAs) that will generate Biodiversity Offsets Credits. From initial due diligence to feasibility assessments and establishment of Biodiversity Stewardship Sites, we craft solutions that balance environmental responsibility with market viability.
