Meet Simon

Simon Purcell is a seasoned Senior Ecologist with over two decades of expertise in terrestrial ecology, environmental management, and mining operations. His depth of experience across land management and biodiversity assessment makes him a trusted advisor for projects requiring nuanced understanding of ecological constraints and sustainable outcomes.

Simon’s early career in Far North Queensland saw him lead conservation efforts for threatened species including the Palm Cockatoo and Northern Quoll, as well as contribute to mine pre-clearance and rehabilitation works. His practical experience as a mine operator adds valuable insight to large-scale project planning and execution.

Since joining AEP, Simon has delivered expert ecological assessments, bushfire evaluations, and vegetation management plans across New South Wales, including expert witness documentation for Section 34 and Land and Environment Court matters. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Wildlife Science, Certificate III in Animal Care, and is certified in fauna and venomous snake handling.
