    Meet Ian

    Ian Benson is a seasoned environmental professional and strategic leader, known for his sharp analytical thinking and forward-focused decision-making. Since joining AEP in 2016 and stepping into a Director role in 2022, Ian has helped drive the firm’s growth, streamline operations, and strengthen its reputation for innovation and technical excellence.

    With deep expertise in biodiversity assessment, environmental legislation, and approval pathways, Ian delivers cost-effective, practical solutions for complex ecological challenges. He is a recognised Expert Witness in the NSW Land & Environment Court and a key advisor on biodiversity offsetting, stewardship agreements, and compliance strategies.

    Ian’s leadership is defined by clarity, agility, and an unwavering focus on results. He develops innovative methodologies that enhance project delivery and reinforce AEP’s collaborative culture. Ian is a Council member of the Ecological Consultants Association of NSW, where he actively contributes to efforts that shape industry standards and legislative change. This work sharpens his focus and approach on navigating the intricate biodiversity regulatory terrain.

    Beyond the office, Ian is an accomplished field ecologist with a passion for conservation research. From nocturnal surveys to working alongside his conservation detection dog, Dash, Ian brings creativity and precision to every corner of his work - bridging consultancy practice with a deep commitment to ecological integrity.
